A resolution was carried unanimously at a representative gathering of leaders <»t' the Maori portion of the Auckland district, expressing gratifi cation at the appointment of a commission to bring Maori work in the north into compact unitv by the creation of n Maori diocese. AUCKLAND, Al ay 15. Eight houses in the city and suburbs were entered by burglars between Friday evening and yesterday morning, and tin attempt was made to break into another residence. (P< r press Association). WELLINGTON, May 15. | Sir J. Parr, interviewed on his return from Australia, stated the economic position there is improving. The unemployed were being absorbed into industry. One did not hear the Australians talking much about an economic blizzard. A spirit of gloom did not characterise the general attitude of the people. Australia in its heart was fearful of a drought which, if it came, would throw the whole country back.
