CORRESPONDENCE
(To the Editor. - ) sir.— I have been given t;> understand that a conference of representatives of all Labour organisations on lhe Coast has been called in Greymouth I'.ir next Saturday, the 20tb. of May. This conference is supposed Io be called for lhe purpose of consolidating the Labour Alovemeiit on the West C»ast. What I cannot understand is why are tne workers on the ('oast only Io l>e organism.. We all know, or we should know, 'that what labour wauls is a solid nati’unal organisation. To my mind this is of more /mportance than tlu solidarity of any district or section. I will readily admit. that Labour Unions and organisations are, at times, boycotted by business T*«nii. and that victimization is carried on; end that if anyone speaks too loudly for the unemployed. he> will soon find himself behind the bars. Still, the cure for these evils is surely national. ii'.»t local. I would take, it. as a favour, if some of the convenors ot Saturday’s conference will enlighten us on thi' subject. I am, etc. LN TOTO.
