TRENTHAM CONTESTS Second Day’s Results (Per Press Association). TRENTHAM, March 9. The Canterbury match, 10 rounds at 300yds was completed during th'' morning, the winner being C J. Nix (Featherston) who scored the possible with which he collected first prize of £7. R. H Nieholl (Petone) was runner-up TRENTHAM, March 9. The annual matches for the King’s Prize were advanced a further stage at Trentham to-day when the National Rifle Association disposed of three single range matches and one double range match. As the result of the matches already completed in the Championship series, H. Simonds (Auckland) and E. S. King (Wanganui) are leading for the King’s, each having an aggregate of 336. Simonds and King have each won the Champion Belt, the former in 1924, and the latter in 1928. Conditions in the early morning were far from promising, but shortly after the marksmen arrived at the mounds the weather took a turn for the better. The first match of the day, the Canterbury (ten rounds at 300yds) was won by C. J. Nix (Featherston) with the possible, for which he collected the first prize of £7. Five other marksmen dropped one point only. The competitors then moved back to the 500 yards mark for the first range of the Wellington Match. Here five possibles were recorded, the marksmen to put their ten shots into the bullseye being R. C. Hamilton (Wanganui). S. Mayhew (Cheltenham), A. R. Willis (Invercargill), H. K. Smith (Opaki) and Sim (Okara). At the second range of 600yds, the scoring was generally lower. The winner of the match was W. H. Ballinger (Petone), who scored 98, having done 49 at each range. F. Bowes (Auckland) was runner-up with In the Hawke’s Bay Match (ten rounds at 600yds) Nix repeated his morning performance, again winning with the possible. F. 11. James, of Napier, was second with 49. Four possibles were made in one range of the Taranaki Match, which called for ten rounds at 800yds. V. Dunn (Upper Hutt) was the first to finish with all his shots bullseyes, and he was quickly followed by R. C. Barkle (Petone). R. F. Wakefield (Auckland) and W. Sheriff (Gisborne). The Trentham aggregate for the highest aggregate scores in the King and Henry Match, Canterbury Match, Hawke’s Bay Match and Wellington Match went to E. S. King (Wanganui) with an aggregate of 259.
