WAIUTA NOTES.

(Our Own Correspondent.) Mr Joe Baines, while employed at the Blackwater Mine, had the misfortune to break his leg on Monday evening, through falling down the ladderway in a rise on No. 10 level. After being made comfortable by Dr. Logan, the sufferer Was conveyed to the Greymouth Hospital, where he is making satisfactory progress. Mrs J Uren, who is an inmate of the Reefton Hospital, is seriously ill. Mr Don Ferguson (Palmerston North) is spending a holiday here as the guest of Mrs O’Donnell (Empire Hotel). Mrs C. Rodden (Reefton) was a visitor to the township on Friday last. Miss Kitty Stephens is undergoing treatment at Mrs Lamberton’s private, hospital, Reeftou, and is making satisfactory progress. Mr and Mrs I’. Johnston left on Tuesday morning en route to Auckland, where they will in future reside. Mr and Mrs Johnston are old and popular residents of the township, and the best wishes of their many friends is extended to them fur success in their new surroundings. Mr Alan Wells (Reefton) was the successful tenderer for painting and decorating the interior of the Miners’ Hall. The work will be commenced early next week. Mr R. J. Avery is spending a week’s holiday in Christchurch. Owing to unfavourable weather conditions the cricket fixture between Reefton and Waiuta ladies’ cricket teams did not eventuate. Very heavy rain has fallen here during the past few’ days, and wintry weather conditions are prevailing. Mr AV. Jarvis, who is an inmate of the- Reeftou Hospital, is progressing fa vou rably. A dance will be held in the Miners’ Hall on Saturday evening after the pictures. Those attending are assured of an enjoyable evening.
