MARLBOROUGH PLANE

Crashes at Wellington (Per Press Association). WELLINGTON, February 15. After taking off at Rongotai Aerodrome for a flight to Blenheim this evening, the Marlborough Aero Club’s machine crashed on the aerodrome and was badly damaged. Neither the pilot, A K. Willis, nor the passenger, Morrison, was hurt. The machine was a three-seater Sim monds Spartan. It eame to Wellington two days previously. A strong northerly was blowing, and the pilot took off in the climbing turn manoeuvre used for leaving Rongotai in a norther ly, but he did not gain much height. He then turned around again to g p t into the wind, and had almost completed the ericle when the wing of the machine, which steeply banked, struck the ground The wing dropped along some yards Then the machine went over on it s nose, smashing the propeller off before coming to rest on its side. The engine cowling was buckled. Portion of the fuselage and some of the wing structure was dam aged.
