GOVERNMENT POLICY CONDEMNED. WELLINGTON, February 25. Evidence wa s given before the Government Superannuation Funds Bill Committee by Col. T. W. MeEonald, who said: The chief object of tie Bill appears to be to compel the anndtants and contributors to pay the slortage in the funds that have been caused by the default on the part of th State over that period of years whemt overtaxed the people by millions ofpounds, and squandered millions of pcindg on unnecessary undertakings, Initead of conserving the contributors’ mntribu tions to meet their retiring alowances, the State used them to mee; current retiring allowances, instead a meeting those allowances out of State subsidies for back service, in accordane with its [contract with those who jiined the funds.
