N.Z. DAIRY EXPORTS
BRITISH CHECK Expected to be Imposed (Aus. & N.Z. Cable Assn.) LONDON, February 13. Trade treaty negotiations by Britain with Argentine and Denmark, coupled with the plight of British agriculture, are likely markedly to involve Australia’s, New Zealand’s, and other Dominions’ foodstuffs exports to Britain, particularly dairy produce. The Sydney “Sun” understands that, the catastrophic fall in prices may compel Britain to seek restriction in imports, similar to the existing voluntary moat-restrictions. A serious problem for the Dominion is that some dairy products have fallen so heavily that no anti-foreign duties will really protect the Dominions. Moreover, if the foreigners cannot secure satisfactory treaties here, they will continue, to flood the market regardless of prices, which may fall c-onsiderabh lower.
