Novice stake-: lina-nrvvj, Black Ribbon. Greymouth T.C. LIKELY TO HOLD SPECIAL MEETING. Application has been made to the .Minister of Internal Affairs and the New Zealand Trotting Conference by the Greynrouth Trotting Club for a permit to hold a special two-day meeting at Greymouth later in the season The Nelson Trotting Club was to have held its meeting last Saturday and Monday, but it was postponed, owing to poor acceptances, and it was generally conceded that there would be an abandonment of the idea of holding a meeting this year, so that there is available the permit which the Greymouth T.C. are endeavouring to secure. Although the request has not yet been sanctioned, there is every reason to believe that it will receive favourable consideration, land that, if so, the meeting will probably be held in June. It had been suggested that the Nelson T.C. meeting be held at Greymouth, but previously this course had proved unsuccessful financially to both the Nelson and Grey Clubs. The matter of dates for the two-day meeting, the class of the events and the stakes will be decided upon as soon as approval is given to the application. No objection is anticipated from the Con ference. In view of the success of the win and place system at recent racing fixtures, it might be found a timely innovation to introduce the sys tern into trotting and try it out at the meeting—that is. of course, if the nominations are as numerous as at previous meetings conducted by the Club.
