REEFTON NOTES

(Our Own Correspondent.) REEFTON, December 4. Messrs Scantlebury and Wood, members of the Nelson Education Board, and Messrs Thornton (secretary) and Leaper (architect), arrived in Reefton yesterday from Westport and left later for the Alexander Mine, where they will participate in the official opening of the newly erected school the re. Air P. Fraser, AI.P. for Wellington Central, who has been spending a few days in Reefton, left on return this morning. The usual monthly meeting of the Reefton Alusio.al and Literary Society was held last evening in the Catholic Parish Hall. There was a good attendance of members, some twenty-eight being present. The President, Rev. Father Seymour, occupied the chair. The usual routine business was transacted and accounts passed for payment. The President explained the action of the Committee regarding the entertainment, and their action in this matter was endorsed. Air H. Cooper w r as elected a member of the committee, and Air Wight’s resignation was received with regret. It was resolved that no monthly meeting be. hold in January, but that the usual gathering be held the first week in February. The question of honorary members was discussed. and Air W. B. Auld moved and Ah' Sharpe seconded that honorary members be admitted to the Society at an annual subscription of ss. A very enjoyable programme was contributed the following being the numbers: Glee Circle, ‘‘Softly Fall the Shades of Evening,’-’ and “See Our Oars with Feathered Spray”; vocal solos, Airs Diseacinti, “Alate o’ Mine”; Afrs Sharpe, “To a Miniature”; Mr W. B. Auld. “Jack’s Come Home to Stay”; Air Cooper, “Ton’ll get heaps o’ Lickin’s”'; Afr ;“Red Devon /by Sea”; piano duet, Afrs Kane, Miss Stallard. “Serenata” from “11 Trovatore”; vocal duet, Afesdames Baird and F. Kearns, “List to the Convent Bells.” The accompanists for tho evening Were Afesdames Discaciati, Kane. Lawn, Misses Stallard and Langlev, while Mrs Farrell contributed a piano solo. A short community sing concluded a very enjoyable and enthusiastic gathering.
