Th P governing body of the International Labour Office decided by 16 to 7 votes, to adopt the Italian Government’s proposal to place on the agenda for the next session of the conference, th P . question of a universal forty-hour week, with the object of absorbing the unemployed. It was also resolved to hold, a preparatory conference at Geneva in January, to consider th e technical problems involved, and to communicate the conclusions to the governing body, which will forward them to the World Economic Conference. The British Government and the employers’ representatives voted with the minority, the former opposing the suggested procedure, and the latter contending there was no evidenc P that a reduction in hours would diminish unemployment.
