FLOGGINGS AT AUCKLAND. (Per Press Association). WELLINGTON. September 22. The Minister of Justice (Mr Cobbe) stated that the two prisoners who were recently sentenced at Auckland for assault and robbery, to twelve strokes of the cat of nine- tails, were duly flogged yesterday. THE GREAT UNPAID. WELLINGTON. September 22. The Minister of Justice, said to-day that he did not propose to issue a new list of appointments as Justices of th'Peace, during 'the pi)csent session. There were already approximately six thousand. TERRITORIAL CAMPS. WELLINGTON, September 22. Mr Cobbe (Defence Minister) sai’d, to-day, that military camps for territorial units would bo held throughout the Dominion during the coming summer. Camps will be of six days’ duration, and the pay according 4 to rank, the arrangements being the same as in the days of compulsory training. N.Z RIFLE TEAM FOR AUSTRALIA. WELLINGTON. September 22 Preparations have been made for a. team of ten New Zealand marksmen to attend the New South Wales championships rifle meeting, -which opens on the Liverpool range, Sydney, on October 8. Eight of the team arc members of the Petone Club, and the others are from the South Island. They are:—W. H. Ballinger, E. A. Ballinger, A. C. Ballinger, R. IL Nicholl, A. IL O’Donnell, IL L. Rule, J. Carter and T. J. Ch amnia n (all members of the Petone Club), and H. Konpert (Oamaru), and G. Cromie (Rakaia).. Carter, the captain. left by the Monowai for Sydney ou Tuesday.
