ONLY ONE LOSS OF LIFE

Unfortunately the erection of the hydro plant was not without tragedy, a carpenter, Lancelot Hamilton Craig, of Blackball, losing his life. He was employed by Sparks, Ltd., the contractors, and was accidentally drowned whilst carrying out. repair work on a footbridge leading to the main dam on December 5, 1931, at 4 p.m. when he tripped over a stringer and fell into the flooded Arnold River. A fellow worker, Anthony Moore, pluekily dived into the river in an effort to rescue him, but he was past all human aid as he had previously

struck his head, apparently on a projecting rock.
