RISE AT ADDINGTON Yesterday’s Sale (From Our Own Correspondent). CHRISTCHURCH, September 21. The entry of fat cattle was slightly more numerous. However, the supply was short of requirements. Higher values were recorded up to £2 per head. It was the best sale of beef for many months. Extra heavy bullocks sold to £l4 7s 6d, prime £ll 10s to £l2 2s 6d. medium £lO to £ll ss, plain £7 5s to £8 15s. Extra heavy prime heifers sold to £ll 7s 6d, prime £9 2s 6d to £lO 2s 6d, medium £7 15s to £8 7s 6d; best cows to £lO 17s 6d, prime £7 5s to £8 2s 6d, medium £5 5s to £6 ss, inferior to £4. There was a mediocre offering of store sheep. The ewes and lambs met a ready sale, also the ewe hoggets. There was a full yarding of fat sheep, chiefly southern consignments, the quality being excellent. The market opened Is a head firmer than in the previous week for better quality. For medium lots there was no appreciable change. There was a smaller varding of spring lambs, but the quality was better, with a lesser percentage of light lambs. Owing to the attractiveness of the entry, the butchers paid on an average 2s a head above last week’s rates. Best heavy lambs sold to 24s 4d, prime 16s 7d to 19s 7d, medium 13s lOd to 16s 4d, light from 9s 6d. There was a medium yarding of porkers. Bacon was in short supply. All classes were firm except choppers. were easier. Medium porkers sold 22s 6d to 34s 6d. heavier 37s 6d to 44s 6d; choppers 50s to £5 Is 6d; baconers 4Ss 6d to 59s 6d, heavy £3 3s to £3 13s 6d, extra heavy to £3 18s 6a.
