A special meeting of the Greymouth Branch of the Women’s Institute was held in the Wesley Hall yesterday afternoon, Mrs Black presiding over a good attendance of members, while visitors were present from the Glad stone and Kaikoura Institutes. Four new members were admitted to the Institute. Two very interesting de monstrations wore shown, organdie petal sechets by Mrs Phelan, and soft tovs bv Mrs Peek. The competition

for plain scone making, held last month was won by Mrs Carruthers. It was decided that a shop day beheld in November, in connection with

In the Canterbury—West Coast district, eight cases of infectious diseases were reported to the Health Department during the week ended at noon o n Monday. A destructive fire this morning occurred at Runanga about 1.45 o’clock, in Duncan Street, the residence of Mr and Mrs Crowe being burned down, and nothing being saved.
