NEW YORK. September 17. At Baltimore, Ross Somerville. London, Ontario, won the United States amateur golf championship to-day, defeating Johnny Goodamn, of Omaha, two and one in the thirty six holes final. He is the first foreign winner since Harold Hilton (England) won in 1911. At Pine Valley (New Jersey), in the first round of match play for Crump Cup, Erie Fiddian (the British Walker Cup player) defeated Jes g Sweetster (New York) three and two. T. A. Torrence (Britisn captain) defeated R A. Jones (New York) 5 and 4. GREYMOUTH CLUB. The first round of the Junior Champ'onship resulted:— Miss Cornwall beat Mrs Thomas. Miss Carter b p at Miss O’Meara. Mrs Fleming beat Misg Costello. Miss Cairney beat Mis 3 A. Hambl& ton. In the semi-final, Miss Cornwall plays Miss Carter, and Mrs Fleming plays Miss Cairney. FLAG MATCH. In th© Silver Division Mrs Hannan had one stroke left a t the end of the 18 ho’es, and with an excellent drive, placed the flag well down the 19th fairway. Th 0 finish in the Bronze Division, flag match, proved exciting. Mrs Wilkinson placed the flag on the 18th green, two yards from the pin. Miss J. Hambleton finished about six inches nearer the hole, winning bv a narrow margin. r l o-morrow a ladies senior medal match will be played as follows:— SILVER DIVISION. Mr s Hannan v. Miss N. Tennent.
