The Federal Government’s intention to reduce the maximum allowance payable to old age pensioners by 2/6, to 15/- weekly, having caused dissatisfaction, within Government mnks, the i Prime Minister now announces that the I maximum of 17/6 will not be disturbed where it can be show n that recipients are solely dependent on the pension, but where pensioners’ children are able to contribute to the parents’ sustenance, the Government will Insist on the pension cut. It may also fall upon the relatives to reimburse thc Government for a portion of the cost.
