“B” RADIO STATIONS
Fear of Extinction DEPUTATION TO MINISTER. (Per Press Association). WELLINGTON, August 16. A large deputation to-day waited on the Postmaster-General in reference to the conditions under which the B Radio Stations are to be permitted to broadcast sponsored, programmes. Alarm was expressed that some of the stations would be forced off the nir by the ruling now announced that only one sponsored programme should b? given in any evening. Hitherto one sponsored programme and one talfc were permitted. The Minister said that he did not wish to see any stations closing doWn, but some control was obviously es-
rcntial and the question was where tn stop. The Broadcasting Board had adopted the policy that a coverage had to be given before any duplication of service was to be entertained. The problem was to find the right balance between too much and too little freedom. Mr Hamilton added that hr would consider the deputation’s represent* tions.
