Buster plays a milI lionair ( e’s son who falls in love with a • girl and starts out to reform her “tough” younger brother. He builds a gymnasium in the tenements and attempts to run it. He tries to stage amateur shows, and to set an example as a big he-man. But the best laid plans go astray. He gets pounded by a prize-fighter, gets a trouncing as a wrestler— and then a gang leader decides to “rub him out.” Between bullet.two hundred small boys, basebal’s. vegetables, anj other troubles that he ■ has to dodge, Buster cavorts through | a series of hilarious trials and tribwla- , lions and finds that the path of true love is full of cobblestones—but finally turns the tables and wins her. .luita Page, who played op'pos'te K.'.tiou in “Free and Easy,” is the heroine, and Cliff Edwards contributes added laughs as the comical valet D’Jggi.e.
HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY. CHRYSANTHEMUM SHOW. The first show of the above Society will be held in the Druids’ Hall on Saturday n ext, at 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. His Worship the Mayor will perform the official opening ceremony at 3 p.m. The committee have left no stone unturned to make the Show the success it deserves to be. A deputation waited upon the principal growers of Hokitika on Saturday last, with the result that some of them joined the Society a s members and will exhibit at the Show. To say the public are in for a horticultural treat is putting it very mildly. The blooms are magnificent specimens, well worthy of the term “Queen of Autumn’’ flowers, be- ■ ing well nigh perfect in all respects. In addition to the Japanese section, the Chinese and singles are well represented, whilst the decorative classes, bowls of cut flowers and decorated tables w ll gladden the hearts of the ladies. Entries close with the Secretary, 43 Shakespeare Street. a t 9 p.m. on Thursday, or with any member of the Committee. Don’t miss this treat on Saturday.
