(Aus. & N.Z. Cable Assn). LONDON, May 8. Germany have el minated India in the Davis Cup preliminaries. Dessart and Nourney defeated Charanjiva and Prasada in the doubles, 6/4, 3/6, 3/6, 6/2, 6/3. They will meet Austria, who have eliminated Czechoslovakia by three matches .to two. NEW YORK, Ma y 7. A message from New Orleans states that the long railway journey unsettled the Australian Davis Cup tennis team and found them off form for the greater p'art in their matches with local stars to-day. Parker’s defeat of Sproule was directly attributable to this, while the other players showed an obvious need for practice. Crawford’s brilliance stood him in good stead against Sutter, who is sixth on the national ranking list. He forced the play throughout, his powerful forehand and sharply angled shots troubling his opponent, but he tired under the hot sun. The American, though steady from the baseline, had much trouble handling his opponent’s speed when the latter rushed to the net. The American evened the score on three different occas’ons, but finally weakened before the barrage of placements. Hopman and Crawford fell before the steadiness of Sutter and Murray, the former Southern States champions, in a closely contested match, a feature of which was the gtinging overhead by Crawford and the soft volleys by Sutrer. In the other doubles a blistering pace was set by Clemenger, who won the first set for the Australians without the loss of a game.
