COur Own Correspondent.) REEFTON, May 11. The weather during the past two days has been exceedingly cold, and snow has fallen on the Paparoa Ranges as well as in the Maruia and all the hifls in the district. The heavy rain of yesterday continued all night, and the Inangahua River has a large body of water flowing down it. Mr G. Perotti, of Greymouth, was a visitor to Reefton to-day, and returned by this evening’s train. Messrs W. R. Wilson (Christchurch) and James (Wanganui), who are interested in several Inangahua mining properties, were visitors to Reef ton today.

Ihe members of the Reef ton Fire Brigade on Monday farawellcd on e of their members, Fireman Israelson, of the Reefton railway station staff, who has been transferred to Christchurch. Captain Coxall presided, and after the usual toasts that of the departing Fireman was proposed by Foreman Parkinson, who wished him success as well as good health and prosperity in his new sphere. In. responsing, Fireman Israelson referred with regret to having to Leave the district, where h e had spent a most enjoyabl'O time, but he had to move on when the Department said so. On behalf of th© members of the Brigade. Cap'tain Coxall presented a splendid suit ease to (he departing Fireman, al, the same time eulogising his good services to the Brigade, and wishing him promotion in the Department. Oiher toasts were proposed and honoured ,and songs were given by Messrs O'Malley, Grogan, Wills, Coxall and Chapman, and a most enjoyable evenirg closed with “Auld Lang Syne.” The sheep dog trials at Ikamatua opened to-day and will be continued tomorrow and On Friday afternoon at one 0 ’clock, Reefton will see the commeneement of this interesting exhibition of canine intelligence. On Satai day morning at 10 o’clock these will be continued. There are very few people who do not take an interest in trained animals, and there are few exhibitions to equal the animal intelhg nee displayed by dogs trained to the working of sheep. Their patience and cleverness in controlling refractory sheep is one of the marvels of animal life, and the exhibition of their powers is always enjoyed. Patrons are assured of excellent sport, and the Com. mittee of the Inangahua A. and P. Association hope to receive sufficient return by the way of grate leeeipts to rccomp'ense the Association for instituting the dog trials. A meeting of the Prospecting Association was held last evening and despite the inclemency of the night there was a fair attendance. Mr T. Williams was in the chair. The minutes of the pievious meeting were read and confirmed. It was resolved that Mr A. Wills, the Secretary, be appo nted as the Association’s representative to the Local Unemployment Board. A letter was received from the Inanga hua County Council re the track to Laki' Christobel and recommending the Association to apply to the Grey Coun ty Council re this, as it was in the G:\ty County. It was carried that Secretary writ e the Grey County re this matter. Two applications were received for assistance. On the motion of the Chairman, seconded by Mr W. J. Morris, it was carried that a letter of appreciation be sent to the Hons. M. Fagan and Mclntyre thanking them for their efforts, n connection with the furthering of prospecting. The passing of accounts for payment and a vote of thanks to the chair concluded the meeting.
