BEEF CHEAPER
Addington Market YESTERDAY’S PRICES. (Special to “Argus.”) CHRISTCHURCH, May 11. * Prices for beef were lower at today’s Addington sale, while mutton sold better. The sale is reviewed by Messrs H. Matson and Co., as follows: About twenty lots of store lambs were offered. There was steady competition, but little change in values. There was a smaller offering of aduit store sheep. Best ewes met a ready sale, as did wethers. The general range of values was better. < Fat lambs met a readv sale, but at j reduced, schedule rates, competition being keen for the better grades. Best heavy lambs sold to 20s 4d, prime 17s to 19s, medium 13s 6d to 16s 6d, light from 9s. There was a smaller yarding of mutton. of mixed quality. Best-finished lots met a ready sale at a higher basis. Best heavy wethers sold to 23s 4d, prime wethers 16s to 18s 6d, medium wethers 13s Gd to 15s 6d, light from Ils Id. Prime heavy ewes to 16s 7d, prime ewes Ils 6d to 14s 6d. medium 8s 6d to Ils, light from 6s 6d, iuflfY'or 4s. The bonf requirements were heavily over-supplied. Over five hundred head were penned. There was an all-round easing of prices. In many cases sales were difficult to make. It was a particularly dull sale. Best heavy bub locks sold to £l2 7s Gd, prime steers £7 15s to £8 15s, medium steers £5 5s to £6 10s, plain from £3. Prime heavy heifers sold to £7 17s 6d, prime £4 15s to £6 10s, light from £3. Extra heavy cows sold to £7 17s 6d, prime £4 103 to £5 15s, medium £3 5s to £4 ss, inferior from 17s 6d. Fat pigs were easiar all round, especially porkers. Porkers sold 23s to 27s 6d. heavier 28s 6d to 32s 6d, choppers £2 to £5 Is 6d. Baconers sold 36s 6d to 44s Gd, heavy 48s 6d to 54s 6d. extra heavy to £3 Is 6d. Store pigs were selling at late rates.
