HOKITIKA, May 2. The ratepayers of the Southern riding of Westland appear this time determined to be represented on the County Council by residents of their own riding, and have nominated four candidates for the four seats, Messrs Donovan. Searle. M’Kay and Cropper. Lt is satisfactory to see the southern residents displaying keen interest in civic affairs,, as theirs is a very important section of the country. Representation by residental members ought to prove the wish of the great majority of the electors. The local Competitions open on Thursday at 7.30 p.m.. at the Theatre, wlvn 37 performers will take part in Ure evening’s programme. The “Gael” arrived this morning from north, and is loading timber, sailing this evening for Motueka and Wellington. The rainfall last week was less than a quartier of an inch, while the sunshine recorded was 23 hours. A bogey match was played by the Hokitika Golf Club on Saturday, and was won by Adamson (2 up).
