DE VALERA PREVAILS Second Reading (British Official Wireless. - ) RUGBY, April 29. The bill for the removal of the Oath of Allegiance was further debated in the Irish Free State Dail. Despite vigorous opposition, the motion proposed by Mr De Valera for the suspension of the Standing Orders, permitting the Dail to sit continuously until midnight to-morrow, to conclude the second reading stage, was carried by 78 votes to 72. The Opposition Leader (Mr Cosgrave) declared that in exhibiting the unwarranted haste, Mr De Valera was trifling with the Dail. DUBLIN, April 30. The abolition of the Oath Bill was read a second time in the Dail Eireann.

Speaking in the Dail Eireann, President De Valera, replying to the speeches in the Oath Bill debate, said: ‘ f My word—our word —is as good as the word of Mr J. H. Thomas (British Minister for the Dominions). I am not afraid of negotiation with Britain, but, when we negotiate, it will be about a United Ireland, and not before! No negotiation is needed about this Oath Bill. We propose to get the last letter of our political rights.” Referring to the equality of the nations under the British Commonwealth, Mr De Valera said: “We are going to put it to the test whether that is a descriptive phrase, or has solid substance behind it.” .
