RACING NOTES. Captivate, the Central Otago gal loper, seems to be badly placed in his recent races. He has speed to burn for a short distance, but even six furlongs appears to be too far for him in good company. Still, we see him nominated and competing in races over all distances. If Captivate were better placed, he would more than pay his way. Further, if he ever appears in a five furlong race he can bo considered next to a good thing. W'nsome Hind was unlucky not to win at Manawatu on the first day. This mare is very fit just now, and a winning turn must come her way. She is engaged in the G. B. Starky Memorial Handicap, and the distance, one mile and a-quaitcr, will suit her nicey, as she is always run’ng on at tho end of her races. Admiral Drake was not allowed to enjoy much idleness on his return from Australia, and h 0 is again moving along attractively in his work. Trainer C. Gieseler believes in keop’ing his horses on the move when they are well, and it should not be long before Admiral Drake wins another good race. The owners of Arch Arrow last week at Nelson presented the horse to Air George Cave, of Blenheim, and formerly of Cobden. The horse will compete at Blenheim to-dair and to-morrow.
