Captain A. T. Dowell arrived yesterday on a visit to Greymouth. Miss N. Youiqr left yesterday on a holiday visit to Christchurch Mrs J. Kyle left yesterday on a visit to Wellington. Miss J. Debenham left yesterday morning on return to Wellington. Mrs Lawson, who has been visiting Greymouth and Reefton, left yesterday on return to Wellington. Rev. Father G. Wright, Auckland, who has been visiting Greymouth, has left for Westport. Mr F. Wade of Christchurch, was a passenger by yesterday‘s inward express. Mr R- E. Clarke returned to Greymouth by yesterday afternoon’s Christchurch express. Misses Neil and Thompson, who have been visiting the West Coast, left yesterday on return to Christchurch. Mr J. C. Brown, General Manager of the Westport Coal Company, left yes- 1 terday for Christchurch. Mrs G. Ward and Miss F. Ward arrived yesterday from Wellington on a visit to Mrs M. Hanrahan, High Street. Miss L. Wallace, who has been o n a holiday trip to Christchurch, returned by yesterday’s express. The late Sir Charles MacMaho* left an unsettled estate of £2601 with a per. sonal estate of £2316. Mr Gregory Hunt arrived by yesterday’s express on a visit to Greymouth. M'ss Maureen Lewis, who has been visiting Temuka and Wellington, returned by yesterday afternoon’s express. Mr Albert J. Hern, manufacturers* representative, Christchurch, is now visiting Greymouth on behalf of Messrs Sherwin-Williams and Co., paint manufacturers, Wellington.
A London cable records the death of General Sir Charles Mansfield Clarke, at the age of ninety-three years. His widow, Dame Clarke, is a native of Melbourne. The Minister of Mines, Mr C. K Macmillan, has signified his intention of visiting Westland at the close o’ the present session, which will probably be early in May. Ghests at the Albion Hotel include: Mr W. G. Bertwhistle (Melbourne). A Melbourne cable records the death of Mr Donald MacKinnon. He was a former Minister of the Victorian Parliament, and was for twenty-five years Chairman of the Victorian Cricket Association. A Rugby wireless message states that a verdict of death by accidental drowning was returned at the inquest at Windermere on Saturday afternoon on Mr Edward Taylor Scott, the editor of the “Manchester Guardian’ 7 ’; who lost his life when a dinghy in which he and his son were sailing on Lake Windemere capsized The death is announced from Wa-i ganui of Mr James Furrie, assistant Postmaster, Wellington, aged 47, and President of the P. and T. Officers’ Guild. For several years he was senior supervisor of the Telegraph Office, Invercargill, and occupied the position of Assistant Postmaster at Dunedin before his promotion to Wellington last year. He had a serious illness six months ago, and recently went to Wa- • nganui to recuperate. He leaves a widow and three children. • — . . -
