REEFTON NOTES

(.Our Uwn Correspondent.) REEFTON, April 25. It is understood that a commencement with work on the Waitahu Sluicing Company’s race will be made thii week. Twelve men are to start at once on the brickwork and it is expected that a larger number will be put on as the work progresses. Mr E. W. Spencer attended the races at Nelson, where his two horses Jael and Gold Bag, had engagements. The marriage took place last week at St. Luke’s, Wadestown, Wellington, of M'SS Joyce Kaier, daughter of Mr and the late Mrs Kaier, of Reef’ ton, to Mr Claude Goddard. Indicators for the fire plugs are now being placed in position by the County. This i s an innovation that will be great ly appreciated by members of the Fire Brigade and others, who, when an outbreak of fire takes place have on occasions lost valuable time in locating a plug, owing to the grass, which growb so rapidly on Reefton streets obscu ing it from view.

The a nnua l general meeting of the Cronadun Football Club was held last w°ek, and there was a large attendance of members, the proceedings throughout being very enthusiastic. In the absence of the President, Mr E. Archer wa s voted to the chair. Prior to the commencement of the routine bus ness the Chairman referred to the loss the Club had sustained through the tragic death of its late captain, Mr “Sid” Smith, and moved a vote of condolence with the relatives of deceased, all present standing in silence. The balance sheet showed the Club to be in a sound financial position. The following officers were e’ected for the ensuing year: —Patron, Mr T. Irvine; President, Mr F. W. Archer; Sccreta y, Mr A. McMahon; Club Captain, Mr F. Archer; Committee, Messrs L. Hunter, J. O’Malley, R. Smith. F Archer and T. O’Donnel’; Selectors, Club Captain, Field Captain and Mr F. W. Archer; Delegates, Messrs W. Barry, W. Archer and T. Irvine; Coach, Rev. Fr. Aldridge. It was resolved that delegates be instructed to vote in favour of a senior competition only during the coming season.
