GREYMOUTH J.C. To-day’s Meeting THE FIELDS REVIEWED. Prospects look bright for tho concluding day of tho Greymouth Jockey Club’s autumn meeting at Omoto today. With the exception of the Trial Stakes in which there are six acceptors, large fields will be the order of the day, the acceptors including a good number of fresh horses. The first race, the Trial Stakes, is scheduled to start at noon. With the exception of Waraloon, Verden and Lady Valkyrie, little form has been displayed by the candidates, whilst the form of the three horses’ above mentioned has been anything but promising also. VERDEN, who will probably be the popular fancy should be found fighting it out with WARALOON.
Trial Stakes, of 70 sovs.; 54 furlongs —Camp, Verden, King Musket 8.10, Lady Valkyrie, Arrowmid, Waraloon 8.5- ’ Eighteen pacers are engaged in the Dobson Trot. Lemoro has been a disappointment in most of his starts so far, but it is likely that he may make amends. Little can be said of La Rinkie. Guy Pointer, or Myrtle Dillon. Town Crier, Shawingan and Silver Bird will all have friends, whilst Allanora, Indian Author and Dawn Sonoma should come in for the greater part of support. Great Thought may require a race, whilst Travis Thorn cannot be classed as being at his best. Fairhead is better suited to a mile distance and will have friends in the Omoto Trot. Chancellor Boy is so unreliable, whilst Vican has just recovered from soreness through racing at Omoto last Saturday. Binscarth, if ho stays down should be a hard proposition, whilst Vestas off 84 yards has not been handicapped out of the running. He was responsible for a fast burst at Omoto last Saturday, and may be one to spring a surprise. Form, however, suggests. INDIAN AUTHOR as being the best of good things, while DAWN SONOMA or ALLANORA may be found to offer the most serious opposition of the remainder. Dobson Handicap, of 80 sovs.; 3.20 class; 1 mile 3 furlongs.—Lemoro, I.a Rinkie. Town Crier, Shawingan, Guy Pointer, Myrtle Dillon, Silver Bird, Autowin, Dawn Sonoma, Allanora scr, Indian Author, Chancellor Boy 12, Great Thought, Travis Thorn, Failhead 24, Binscarth, Vican 36, Vestas 84. The Railway Handicap has drawn seven acceptors, but Awamutu 'who was galloped yesterday morning, developed his old trouble that affected him at Westport, and will definitely not start. The top weight, Limited, makes strong appeal as a form horse, whilst Portrav will also come in for
good support if started in this event. Mataa, Tip Tree and Coomassie should also come into favour and this event fhould be an exceptionally keen betting race. The aged Sagittarius performed with credit at Hokitika, and contrary to his usual practice ran a great race from the tail of the field to beat everything but the winner, Limited, in the President’s Handicap. This, however, was only 54 furlongs, but the Arrowsmith gelding was going on with it at the right end. Atone is in at a light weight, but the aged Bisogne mare has long been a disappointment. She has speed to burn over five furlongs, and even if she does behave at the barrier, she should find the distance beyond her. LIMITED appeals strongly, with most opposition likely to come from TTP TREE or SAGITTARIUS.
Railway Handicap, of 80 sovs.; 64 furlongs.—Limited 9.10, Portray 9.5, Mataa 8.13, Tip Tree 8.6, Coomassie 8.5, Awamutu, Sagittarius 8.3, Atone 7.0. The exceptionally large field of seventeen have accepted for the President’s Handicap, in which the consistent Ravine has been allotted topweight. His three recent wins will bring him into favour, especially so on account of the easy manner in which he accounted for the other contestants. It must be remembered that today, however, he is meeting far better cattle in Taku Tama, Monastic, Earthquake, Noteworthy, Smithereens, Arrowmaid, and Royal Game, under much stiffer terms. Both Taku Tama and Monastic can be relied on to go a merry mile, and Monastic with the light impost of 7.4, looks a likely proposition. Smithereens is also a good performer up to a mile, and his consistency should bring him in for good support. Earthquake has bright prospects, in view of his performance last Saturday. Noteworthy has also co be reckoned with, and during his last few starts has shown a great improve ment. Eaton Hall has shown that he can stay, and with 7.4 is a possible lightweight. Royal Game is now well down in the weights, as is Thursby and Gold Bag. Dainty Ways does not appeal, having gone off of late, whilst Pari cannot be seriously considered in the company. Arrowmaid will come in for support, but has yet to go a mile. The Reefton owned pair TAKU TAMA and MONASTIC, which will be bracketed on the machine, seem to have great prospects, with SMITHEREENS and NOTEWORTHY likely to be filling the minor places. President’s Handicap, of 110 sovs.; 1 mile. —Ravine 9.12, Taku Tama 9.1, Noteworthy 8.2, Arrowmaid 8.1, Smithereens 8.0, Dainty Ways 7.13, Thursby 7.11, Royal Game 7.10, Earthquake 7.7, Gold Bag 7.5, Monastic, Eaton Hall 7.4, Pari, Rich Harvest 7.1, Knocklong, Polthea, Bright Spear 7.0. In the Runanga Hack there are also seventeen acceptors. Solvear has recent winning form to recommend, but has a lot of weight to carry in better company than she met at Hokitika Grand Acre, Lady Rene, and Homecoming are all class performers and the winner should come from these three. Homecoming makes strong ap-
peal, on account of his recent outing at Riccarton on Tuesday, when he ran Countermarch to a neck in the Gimcrack Handicap of six furlongs. White Doe has winning form to recommend her, but she will likely find the company too warm for her. Jael looks the pick of the remainder w T ho have yet to show anything like winning form. Homecoming, Grand Acre and Lady Rene should be the most likely trio to be fighting it out, with honours likely to go to HOMECOMING or GRAND ACRE.
Runanga Hack Handicap, of 80 sovs.; 64 furlongs.—Solvear 9.0, Grand Acre 8.8, Lady Rene 8.6, *Full Crop 8.4, Jael 8.1, Homecoming 7.13, White Doe 7.12, Animated 7.11, Fortalice 7.5, Dutch Princess 7.3, Waraloon 7.2, Gold Arrow 7.1, Marfich Fclluce, Grattan, Fair Go, Quinola, Flowing Gold 7.0. Fifteen pacers are engaged in the Omoto trot. The form displayed in the earlier race should act as a good guide, but there are a number of horses in this event better suited to a mile distance. Shawingan can go a good mile, likewise Silver Bird, Autowin, Town Crier and Fairhead, who should all come in for good support. FAIR HEAD stands out particularly as being well worth watching, with most opposition likely to come from AUTO--WIN or SILVER BIRD..
Omoto Handicap Trot, of 80 sovs.; 2.25 class; 1 mile.—Lemoro, La Rinkie, Town Crier, Shawingan, Myrtle Dillon, Olson scr, Silver Bird, Autowin 12, Great Thought, Travis Thorn, Chancellor Boy, Fairhead 24, August Pointer 48, Vestas 72.
There are fifteen acceptors in the Ahaura High weight Handicap, and the differences in weight in most cases are not groat. Taku Tama, if started, will be sure to come in for good support, whilst Lady Rene will also have friends over this distance. Smithereens makes strong appeal. Coll has winning form and must not be overlooked, whilst White Doe has improved of late. Eaton Hall is about at his best and can be relied upon to go a good race. As most of the candidates are engaged in the President’s Handicap their running in that event will probably provide a guide for this event. ” SMITHEREENS, EATON HALL or TAKU TAMA, if unsuccessful in the chief event, should provide the most serious opposition at the business end.
Ahaura Highweight, of 80 sovs.; 7 furlongs.—Taku Tama 9.9, Lady Rene 9 7, Smithereens 9.6, Coll 9.5, Subdivision 9.4. Thursby 8.10, White Doe 8.8, Booster 8.6, Eaton Hall 8.4, Lochard 8.3, Rich Harvest 8.2. Pari, Fortalice 8.1, Tariff. Polthea 8.0.
There are fifteen acceptors in the Farewell Handicap, but when the race starts the field will probably be reduced to under twelve. Arrowmaid stands out as a bright possibility, whilst Jael well down in the weights should come in for support over this distance. Miss Mercia and Monastic i will also he popular fancies, whilst Portray, Limited, Solvear and Mataa will not be neglected on the totalizator. ARROWMAID makes strong appeal, with JAEL likely to be found offering most trouble at tho winning post. Farewell Handicap, of 80 sovs.; 64 furlongs.—Limited 9.10, Portray 9.5, Arrowmaid. Solvear 8.13, Mataa 8.12, Monastic 8.9, Dainty Ways 8.7, Coomassie, Miss Mercia 8.5, Sagittarius, Awamutu, Full Crop 8.3. Jael 8.0, Animated 7.10, Quinola 7.0. RIDING ENGAGEMENTS AT OMOTO. A.
