FILM FIRE DISASTER
31 CASUALTIES. ZAGREB (Hungary), March 30. A midnight explosion of photographic chemicals, due to a fire on the second floor, trapped forty-five families, spreading panic throughout the Star Film Agency’s seven-storey building. The flames ignited the stairs to the fourth storey, preventing all egress, necessitating the inmates jumping from windows into sheets held by firemen. Six were killed and twenty-five injured. Four are missing, who arc believed to be killed. An adjoining building was also destroyed. The police, soldiers and fire-, men quelled the outbreak, which raged for twelve hours. GOLF LINKS TRAGEDY. LIGHTNING KILLS TWO. LONDON. March 30. A retired busines man, named Kelly, aged 70, was golfing at Maidenhead, with a 15-year-old caddy, a widow’s only son, when lightning killed tlvni both. The occurrence was during a thunderstorm which broke over the golf course this afternoon. The golfer’s opponent was also struck, and was removed to flic hospital, suffering from partial paralysis. They were approaching the seventeenth green, when a sudden brief thunderstorm broke out, and Kelly and the Caddy hurriedly sheltered under Kelly’s umbrella. Both wore killed instantly. Lightning badly burned the mutilated bodies which were found near the green, with the clothing ripped to shreds. Kelly’s beard was singed off. The other player partnering Kelly was struck by the same lightning. He managed to stagger to the club-house, dazed and with burned arms and legs. H's injuries are not critical.
