RETIREMENTS
FROM PUBLIC SERVICE Several Leading Officials (Per Press Association). WELLINGTON, March 16. Several officers well known in Wellington are retiring from the Public Service on superannuation at the end of the present month. One is Mr G. J. Kelleher, Under-Secretary of Internal Affairs. He first joined the service as a telegraph messenger in 1891. Mr Kelleher wa s promoted to be Chief Clerk of the Department of Internal Affairs o u the 10th of February, 1913. When the Government in September. 1918, decided to institute totalisator inspection, Mr Kelleher was appointed Chief Inspector, in wh’ch position he did some fine work in bringing into vogue the new system. On 25th July, 1928, he succeeded Mr G. P. Newton as Assistant Under-Secretary of Internal Affairs. After 44 years’ service Mr Henry Rose, Deputy Commissioner and Secretary of the Government Life Insurance Department, has decided to relinquish his position. He joined the service as a cadet in 1888, and steadily advanced in the Department, becoming Chief Clerk in 1920, and accountant in 1923. He was promoted to be Secretary and Deputy Commissioner in 1926. He has seen the Department grow from a comparatively small institution to its present important position. Mr Charles Edward Nalder. Regis-1 trar-General of Lands, Secretary for ! Lands and Deeds, Commissioner of I Stamp Duties, and Registrar of Incor-1 porated Societies, is also retiring. He joined the service in 1886. He wa s a District Land Registrar for some years prior to 1918. In 1925 he was promoted to the position which he at present holds. M r George S. Nicoll, Chief Clerk of the National Provident Fund and Friendly Societies’ Department, is also retiring. He entered the Public Service as a cadet in the Government Insurance Department in 1893, and was transferred to the National Provident Fund Department in 1914 as Chief Clerk. Mr Nicoll is also Secretary of the National Provident Fund •Board.
