MEN STOOD DOWN

ON RELIEF WORKS. OBJECTION TO STOP-WORK MEETING. (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, March 13. The men on the relief works at Johnsonville have been stood down for *. day. This follows on a dispute. One man assaulted a works foreman, who told him to stand down. The result was that all tools were downed. There ore sixty men affected. The men sent a deputation to the Chairman of the Johnsonville Town Board, -who told them to return to the job. They declined. A deputation was arranged to interview the Minis-ter-in-Charge of Unemployment, who, however, was not available to them. The job will be open to the men in the morning, but the Chairman of the Town Board said that the man who assaulted the foreman will not be reengaged at Johnsonville. There had been friction over holding stop work meetings, he said, and the practice had to stop.
