BROKERS v. TOTE

War in England UNFAIR TOTE TACTICS ALLEGED. (Aus. & N.Z. Cable Assn.) LONDON, February 19. The “Daily Telegraph’s” turf correspondent states: Open warefore threatens between the bookmakers and the Betting Control Board, which conducts totalisators on the racecourses. The bookmakers are incensed by the operations of the Company, which is operating in many cities and is simply transmitting, on commission, the best received to the totalisators on the racecourses. The bookmakers contend that the Control Board, in accordance with the Act, should restrict its activities to racecourse betting only. A meeting of the starting price bookmakers has been called to combat the tote by offering clients five per cent, above the tote odds.
