WOOL INDUSTRY

Position in Europe DEVEREAUX’S REPORT. (Aus. <fc N.Z. Cable Assn). (Received February 21 at 5.5 p.m.) LONDON, February 20. Mr Devereaux, Australian wool representative, in his latest report, states that most of the manufacturers in Yorkshire, whether of tops yarns, or finished goods, are now well employed. The strike of operatives in the Bately district is over, but, while the machinery is active and the tone is cheerful and confident, there are few new transactions taking place, either j n tops or yarns. The prices of tops have generally been maintained. The French topmakers are reasonably active, but the spinners are reported to be working short time. The consumption of tops in Germany continues to be well maintained in volume, though there has been a slight reduction in prices. The Belgian spinners are now working only half time.
