RUSH TO SELL GOLD

London Crooks DEFRAUDING QUEUES 01 VENDORS. ■(Aus. &■ N.Z. Cablfl Assn.) LONDON, February 18. Bullion buyers in London are find ing it difficult to deal with the crowds of sellers. Besides the heavy purchases by legitimate gold-buyers, many crooks are attracted to the business, the latter offering fantastic prices for gold, and then evading payment in a variety of ways. As the police fear that “smash and grab gangsters” will get to work among the queues, armed detectives are mixing in the crowds, while flying squad cars are continually patrolling the city, watching for any suspicious raiding car. There are similar safeguards in the principal provincial cities, where sales of gold also continue.
