(Our Own Correspondent.) Miss Kitty Stephens, who is an inmate of the Reefton Hospital, is making good progress following an operation. Mr E. J. Rose, who has bee n visiting Christchurch, returned by Saturday evening’s express. Mrs R. X Avery and family are spending a week in Reef ton. Messrs J. Fitzgerald. P. O’Donnell, J. Douglas, J. Young, R. Bartlett, and G. Williams, of the Waiuta Cricket Club spent the week-end iu Westport and Granity, with the Inangahua cricket team, playing matches a t Westport and Granity. All the loeal players aqgultted themselves creditably, and speak in glowing terms of the hospitality extended to them while on tour. Miss M. Douglas (Waitahu) was the guest of her sister. Mrs D. Costigan during the week end. Messrs MeAlsie anj party (Hokitika), who were the successful tenderers for the work of improving the Recreation Ground, have commenced operations, and steady progress is being maintained. The contract is expected to take about four months. The ballot for General Secretary and Workmen’s Inspector for the Inangahua Gold and Coal Miners’ Union took place on Saturday and resulted as fol-lows:—-Bairi! 149, McGregor 117. Rollerson 94, Stansbury 19. At Waiuta the voting was as follows: Baird 89, Rollerson 32. McGregor 30, Stansbury 17, informal 3. At Alexander: Baird 31, Rollerson 2, McGregor 1, Stansbury 0. A second ballot between Messrs F. Bairj and J. McGregor takes place o n Saturday February 27th. Mrs J. O. Byrne and family (Ikamatua) were visitors during the weekend. A good crowd of local people visited Ikamatua on Sunday to witness the parachute descent by the intrepid parachutist, “Scotty” Fraser. In ideal weather conditions, “Scotty” made a good descent, fjom the Spartan plane, piloted by Squadron-Leader McGregor. The best wishes of local residents is extended to Miss Grace Bellamy, who has resigned from the staff of Thorpy’s Ltd. During her many visits to the township in the interests of the firm, Miss Bellamy made many friends.
