BURMA CONFERENCE
FINAL SITTING. A NEBULOUS ACCOUNT. (British Official Wireless.) (Received Jan, 9th at p.m.; RUGBY, January 8. Except for a statement of the Government policy which the Prime Minister will make on Tuesday, the Burma Round Table Conference has concluded its work with the plenary session to-day. A resolution was unanimously adopted expressing gratitude to the King, and stating: “At the Conclusion of the Conference summoned to consider the lines of a con stitution for Burma, separated from India, the delegates >would wish to assure Your Majesty, if such assurances are required, that they and the pople of Burma yield to none in thei”
unfaltering loyalty to Your Majesty, and Your Majesty’s Throne.” A resoltuion adopting the report expressed the hope that, as it recorded the opinions of all the parties represented, and registered a substantial measure of agreement, it would serve the purpose for which the Conference was ' called. ' In concluding the general discussion, the chairman, Lord Peel, to * whose services many appreciative r?ifernces were niafde by delegates, exIpressed the view that perhaps some of the delegates had concentrated their attention too much on the safe guards and controls that are to be reserved for the Governor, and had not sufficiently realised the enormous transfer of actual control of business which, under the constitution fore shadowed, must came to the Burmese Government and people. A g*reac range of provincial and cential subjects involved a tremendous weight of fresh responsibility upon Burma’ 0 legislature and Executive, in comparison with which the so-called controls and safeguards shrank into less importance. ______
