CORRESPONDENCE

RUN ANGA SWIMMING BATHS. (To the Editor.) Sir. —At a meeting of the Runanga Amatuer Swimming Club, held on the 6th inst, it was decided to disclaim the apology which appeared in your paper under .the date of 4th inst. We desire to state that our club as a body, had no knowledge whatsoever of this apology, or of its insertion in y.our paper. We would further state that the motion on our books in connection with this apology has not been rescinded, also that it is- not the intention of the Club ,to have seme deleted. I am etc., C. WILLIAMS, Sec. Runanga Amatuer Swimming Club. [That the advertisement to which objection is above taken was not lacking in authority, it may be mentioned that the decision to insert it was the result of a meeting summoned by the i Mayor of Runanga, at which there were present, with a single individual exception, all members both of the Borough Council and of the Baths Committee, the latter being also identical with, and including a majority of, the Swimming Club, among them the President of that Club, with whose approval the meeting was called. After discussing the matter from all angles, it was agreed that a wrong had been done Mr Rankin, who was also present, and there was general agreement with the Mayor when he urged that an apology should be published. All others present then agreed to let the Swimming Club members at the meeting consider the matter themselves, withdrawing meantime for that purpose; and when they were recalled by the Swimming Club members, the latter intimated that they had unanimously agreed to the publication of an apology, which, thereupon, was duly published.—Ed. *‘Argus. ’ ’]
