Saturday’s Sitting THEFT CASES. At a sitting of lhe Magistrate’* Gouri at Greymouthi on Saturday morning before Mr W. Meldrum, S.M. the following eases wer e dealt with: Two first offenders were caeh co n victed for drunkenness, and discharge ed. Edward Cawley, single. aged 30 years, plleaded guilty to a charge of drunkenness, also to one of the theft of a scrubbing- brush valued at 6d, the property of Patrick Johnston also a pair of tan willow sandals, valued at 6s lid, tho property of Hallenstein Brc|s. at Greynwuth on November 6. Senior Sergeant Roach said the defendant was seen taking the articles, a brush from a tray in front of Johnston’s shop and the sandals from the front of HaJienstein Bros. H c had not been before the Coftirt previously. The goods had been recovered. He was a waterside worker. A don.v,ixstion was .entered on all three charges, fines of 10s beHng in flicted each otf the theft charges. An order was made that the property be returned to the rigfixful 'owners. Walter Henry Mulroy, single, aged 27 years, pleaded guilty to a charge that on Or about Octlober 11th, at Greymouth, re did receive 14s from Richard Baumgart, on terms requir;in.g to pay the same to Kennedy Brois> and did fraudulently omit to do so. committing theft. The Senior Sergeant said there was anothser charge pending, with which th© police were not ready to go on as enquiries had to be made. He asked for a remand to November 16. This was granted.
