MAKURA CROQUET CLUB

1931 OFFICIAL OPENING. Glorious weather greeted the official opening of the Makura Croquet, Club yesterday afternoon, when there was a large gathering of members and their friends present. The lawns Looked in splendid order. The opening was performed by the Club Captain, Mrs E. W. Thomas, who .-aid it gave her great pleasure to welcome them all to the lawn. The* day was a beautiful one and if it indicated the approaching season, members were going to have a very happy time. Last season they had pleasant inter-plub matches and hoped that they would have many more this year. The speaker apologised for the absence of Mrs Warnes, and Mr-' Murray. She was very pleased to see so many visitors. Social tournaments were held eevry mohith and they would like to see visitors present also cn those occasions. She then declared the lawn open fbr the 1931-32 season, amidst applause, and called on Mrs ; D. Tennent to roll up the first ball, which was very close, just going around th e peg. Among those present were:—Mesdames E. W. Thomas, Fogarty, Topliss, Whibley, M. Phillips, Coburn. ASmith, D. McKay, Des, Mackley Davies, Johnston, Shuttelworth. X Wright, Absalom, A. Coum.be, Bay, JW. Hannan. H. Herring, J. Owen. Tennent, H. James, Hogg, C. Haglung. Prince, Sampson, Hall. Kear, Eaton, Lowe, Roach, Fell, Smythe, Wilson. Savage. Kibble, Erisksen, Howard Whitehead, Murphy, Mercer, Queen, W. Phillips, Reynolds, Robertson, McCork'lndale, Williamson, AMosley, Martin, Doegan, McDonald, Kaye, Ring, Fairmaid and Jamieson; Mises Anderson, Pratt (2), McKav. Phillips, Meikle, (Wellington), Sheedy. During the afternoon competition games were indulged in and a dainty afternoon tea was served by the Com mjittee. The gapies resulted as follows: — Putting Competition: Mrs A Smith, Goflf Croquet: Mr s D. McKay. French Croquet: Mrs Wilson (Runanga.) Circles: Miss Sheedy. Zig Zag: Mrs D. McKay
