TELLS A FUNNY STORY. (Aus. & N.Z. Cable Assn.) (Received Nov. 5 at 7.10 p.m.) LONDON, November 5. As Master of the Merchant Navy, the Prince of Wales had a busy day at the Merseyside, visiting numerous places of interest ashore and afloat. Ho attended a dfinner of * the Master Marines -Company at Liverpool Town Hall, where the Lord Mayofr o f London, in toasting the Company, announced that the Marines’ petition to became a Every company olf the Cf.ty of London, had received the approval of the Cdurt of Aidermen.
The Prince of Wales, in replying, told a story of an American, who had been invited to a Livery Company’s dinner? Ho was unable to obtain an exact definition of the word “livery” but, after he sat down for five minutes and had a g'obd look at the menu of twelve succulent he turned to a friend, and said: “Say, now I know why you call these livery companies!” The Prince added that the Master Mariners’ Company has been made possible by the generosity of individuals and nota,bly by Lord Rothermere, who had contributed another five thousand sterling.
