Rugg is reported to be progressing satisfactorily at the Grey I Hospital. Mr C. Tanner’s condition was reported to be unchanged. Mesdames Brownlie, senr. and junr.. of Nelson, are visiting Blackball at present, as the guests of Mr and Mrs R. Clark, Moonlight Road. Miss M. Christie, General Manager of the Grey Valley Collieries, Ltd., arrived by last evening’s express from Christchurch, on a visit 'o Greymouth.

Mr S. H. Rossiter, General Manager of Paramount Pictures, Ltd., Wellingtan, arrived last evening on a visit to Greymouth. A Sydney cable records the death of Mr Walter Armiger Bowring, a prominent New Zealand portrait painter. He was born at Auckland in 1874, and settled at Sydney in 1925. His death occurred after an operation. His heal’h had been unsatisfactory- for many months. Mr P. Kane, accountant at the Grey Branch of the Bank of New Zealand, will take up his duties as manager of the Reefton branch on November 16th. Mr T. Milne, formerly of the Greymouth Branch, ami now accountant at the Bank of New Zealand, Hokitika, will succeed Mr Kane, dreymouth. The death is announced from London of Major-General Charles Thornycroft, C.8.E., D. 8.0., at the age of 52 years. He was born in Cheshire. He served In the South African War 1900-2. in the European War 1914-18, and was much criticised for ordering the abandonment of Spio n Kop. Later he was Commander of the Australian and New Zealand Forces in Western Transvaal.

Mr P. N. McGrath died at Wellingon on Sunday last. He was boru at lillespie’s Beach, South Westland. He ipent most of his life in the Defence, Notice, Prisons and Postal Departments >f the Public Service. The deceased, vho joined the army on the outbreak >f the war, and served till its close, s survived by a widow and five child•en. The wedding of an All Black, Mr ■tyilliam Edgar Hazlett, second son >f Mr and Mrs W. T. Hazlett, of Inrarcargill, took place at St. Stephen’s Church, Ashburton, on Wednesday, the jrido being Joan Marion, only daughter of Mr and Mrs E. F. Nicoll, of shburton. The best man was Mr ohn Hazlett, and Messrs I. A. Cotell, F. Edmond and R. Stewart were jwomsmen.
