DAFFODIL SHOW
A FINE DISPLAY. The annual Daffodil Show of the St. John’s Horticultural Society was held yesterday in the St. John’s Hall and attracted large crowds during bo t th the afternoon and evening. Al] the flower sections were exceptionally well filled, and the blopms were of a very high class throughout. The decorative section was a particularly attractive one. Cookery and falncy work sections were also included in the show and in each ease entriow were large and of a high standard. The Secretary, Mrs W. Roxburgh, and her hard-working Committee had made excellent arrangements, and the success of the show was due in no small measure their untiring efforts.
The judges of the various sections were as follows: Cut flowers, Mr Mossop; decorative section, Mrs Iles and Mrs W. Thomas; cookery, Mr P. Blanehfield; fancy work, Mesdam.es R. T. Bush and L. D. The stall-holders were:—Cut flowers, Mrs W. Steer; decorative section, Mrs Leitch and Miss Meikle; cookery, Meddames P. J. McLean and O. McLean; work stall, Mrs Rose and Mrs Kyle; sweets stall, Mrs Low; fancy work, Mrs P. Hambleton; girls’ stall, Miss N. Tennent and helpers; tea-rooms, Mesdames McKenzie, Learmont, Hutchinson, Thompson, J. Hambleton and Misseg Kerr and Connor.
A fine display of copper, pewter and leather wprk by Miss M. Iles was a source of great interest to ,the numerous visitors. TROPHY WINNERS. The winners of the various trophies were as follows:— Champion Bloom of Show: Mr D. J. Field. Crystal Vase for Exhibitor gaining most points in the Fancy Work Section: Miss C. Tennent. Trophy for Exhibitor of Best Vase of Flowers by girls under 16 years: Misg Marion Tennent. Best Vase of Flowers ((those who have never won a. first prize): Mrs W. Roxburgh. Cup for most points in the Daffodil Section: Miss C. M. Wilson (Camerons).
Crystal Vase (donated by Mrs Shallcrass) for most points in Cut Flowers Section: Mrs W. Hamilton.
Trophy for most points in Decorative Section .-Mrs Shallcrass. As Mrs Shallcrass has won the trophy for (the last three years, it now becomes her 'property. A most -enjoyable coneert. programme wag given at the Hall last evening, when there was again a large attendance. The awards in the various sections were as follows:—
