(Our Own Correspondent.) WESTPORT, September 23. The district hockey championships are arranged to .take place to-morrow (Thursday) on Victoria Square. Ramblers (Westport) will play Cronadun and Rovers (Country champions) will play Umere. The winners of these games will engage in the final at 3.30 and Messrs Sara and P. Delaney will be referees. The Kaimai (1435 tons) and the Gabriella (1587 tons), bo h of which were paid off during the past month, will resume running. The former is due in Westport t°'day, and the latter loads at Newcastle next month for Napier and Gisborne. The following are the nominations and handicaps for the whippet races to be held this week-end: —Open Flat, 200 yards: S. Scott’s Wee Mac 15yds, J. McManus’s Lady Brewer 21yds, W. All School Committees in the district resent the decision of the Education Department in regard to the extra cost for dental services to the children. Denniston and Millerton have decided not to pay the charges. The matter will be further dealt with at a meeting of Qommittees called for Westport on Saturday next. Capitation and other allowances to local school authorities will also be discussed. The attitude of the Depar meat in refusing dental advice to the Alillcrton children will come before the meeting. Afessrs Pollock and Anderson will - represent the Denniston School at the conference, and. an effort is to be made to secure representation from the Karamea district. The Technical High School Tramping Club, in charge of Mr E. R. Williams, Airs Williams and Miss Anderson, made a successful ascent of Mount Rochford recently. The pupils enjoyed the outing thoroughly.
