MAN FOUND DEAD. (Per Press Association). CHRISTCHURCH. August 10. Alan Hastings Bridge, 24, single, was found dead at his home, Tui Street, Fendalton, this morning, alongside a gas range. The cireums'anees point to suicide. He was the son of the City Surveyor. N.Z. FIRE BRIGADES EFFICIENCY. WELLINGTON, August 10. Captain Hugo, ex-chief Inspector of Fire Brigades, returned to-day from Australia. He stated that Australia was little in advance of New Zealand in fire-fighting efficiency, New Zealand being right up-to-date in equipment. EMBARGO ON IMPORTING STOCK REMAINS. WELLINGTON, August 10 The New Zealand Farmers’ Union has been advised by the Minister of Agriculture (Mr Murdoch) .that in view of the recent outbreaks of foot and mouth disease in Britain, the Government has decided to maintain the embargo on the importation of cattle, sheep, and pigs from the Old Country.
