OPERA HOUSE TO-NIGHT. UA WONDERFUL PROGRAMME. TWO BRITISH PRODUCTIONS. Two splendid British pictures will be screened at the Opera House tonight. “The Hate Ship,” a drama of thrills, features that foremost English actor Jameson Thomas, and is supported by an excellent cast. ‘ ( Harmony Heaven” is an all-talking, singing, dancing musical, colour romance, and features many prominent English artists, including Polly Ward, Stuart Hall, Jack Raine and Aubrey Fitzgerald. This is one of the best programmes yet presented to Opera House patrons. “The Princess and the Plumber” will be presented at Wednesday’s matinee, evening and Thursday. FRIDAY AND SATURDAY. THE BIG COMEDY—“ON APPROVAL. ’ ’ Again, one of the most successful of all English stage comedies has been converted into a talkie. British Do 1 minions Films Ltd. obtained at -enormous expense, the rights to the successful Frederick Lonsdale stage comedy, “On Approval,” which was such a splendid hit in London, playing to capacity houses for thirteen months. The direction of this super-attraction was left to Tom Walls, world renowned for his work in connection with “Rookery Nook.” It was decided that Edmund Breon, who had the male lead iu the play, should be recalled from Hollywood to play second lead to Tom Walls. Winifred Shotter was selected to play the part of Heen Hayle, wealthy daughter of a retired tradesman, while Yvonne Arnaud, French actress whose imperfect pronunciation breaks sweetly upon one’s, ears, was picked for the widow, Wislak. Frederick Lonsdale was so impressed with Mary Brough’s interpretation of the “daily woman” in “Rookery Nook” that he gave her fhe post of Emerald, the “ ’ighly moral ’ousekeeper” in “On Approval.” Robertson Hare, henpecked husband of “Rookery Nook,” is now Mary Brough’s husband.
