COMMERCIAL
Opossum Skin Sale Dalgety and Co., Dunedin, report: — The first sale of the season was listed for 24th July, but we have decided not to hold a sale but to carry forward the skins we have on hand to the sale on August 14th. Owing to the very rough weather experienced in trapping districts during the last month, and the extension of the season for a week in Otagp, have been coming to hand very slowly. The result is less than half our usual catalogue for a first sale. Other brokers, as far as we know, had less than 200 skins amongst them, and as it was most unlikely that orders would be in the market on such a small offering, we decided to cancel our sale. Clients will no doubt appreciate the fact that we have carefully considered their interests in so doing, as there is no doubt
that had we offered their skins to-day the demand would have been only speculative, and prices probably lower than the skins arc actually worth.
We expect to have a substantial offering at ouj- sale on 14th August, when foreign orders will probably be in the market. We strongly recommend trappers to consign us their skins for'this sale. We shall in the meantime be in close touch with buyers and foreign markets, and clients can rest assured their skin s will be carefully protected to full market value.
