Thompson (Christchurch), | judge of the small birds’ section remarked particularly on the splendid exhibits shown by Air D. J. Cochrane, of Blackball. The quality, condition an d staging of the exhibitg were of a

very high standard and reflected great credit on the local exhibitors.

Air A. W. McNickel (Christchurch), judge of the bantams, game, and al! light breeds, except White Leghorns and Alinorcas, said that though there were not a great many game birds i hey were of good quaity. The winning birds in the male class were of a very high standard, but the hen s were rather weak. The bantam class he considered were improving and the duckwing hen wa a a very fine bird. The Sebrights were a good class. The champion bird was a veiy good specimen, showing fine characteristics, a quality lacking in most of the birds. The brown leghorns, Air McNickel, considered the best exhibited at the Shew for the past -eight years. The male birds were especially good, the col ur and soundness of feather show nig a marked improvement. The black leghorn class was only fair. The females in this section were good, but i the males were not. so good. The anconas showed a slight improvement on last year, though there wa s still room f°r a greater number of entries. However, the birds were of good quality, especially the females. Air T. Kennedy (Rangiora), judge of all heavy breeds, white leghorns, minorcas, ducks, and trios, said that this being the last show of the season was really an exhibition of the best class birds, most of which had been shown previously during the year. The winning pullet in the open class for Barred Plymouth Rocks was easily the best he had scon. In the open sections the Minorcas and Silver AVyandottes were of very good quality The Black Orpingtons in the open section could have been better, however in the utility sections the Black Orpingtons were very good birds, and would hold their own in any show. The barren ro>ck s and the silver wyandottes were good in the utility class. The AVhite AVyandottes were very good •in the utility, especially the winning cockerel, while the White Leghorns were also a very strong section in the utility class. Alost of the birds were well exhibited, though some of them could have been better benched and washed. An interesting feature of rhe show is an exhibition of art s and crafts work by Aliss AT. Iles. Yesterday the exhibit attracted a great deal of favourable attention and Aliss Hos is to be congratulated on her fine work.
