N.Z. UNEMPLOYMENT
The New Board MR. BROMLEY A MEMBER. (Per Press Association). WELLINGTON, July 31. Hon. G. Smith, Chairman of the Unemployment Board, announces the oppointment of the following members. (The term is two years):— James Symon Jessop, of Wairoa (Deputy Chairman). Walter Bromley, of Wellington. Percy Richmond Climie, of Christchurch. Mr Bromley was a member of the original Board, but resigned owing to pressure of private work. Mr P. R. Climie is the Secretary of the Canterbury Progress League. Further Increase 6,427 NOT PLACED. (Per Ptpsr Association). WELLINGTON, July 31. The unemployment registrations for the week ending July 27th numbered 47,772 ,an apparent increase of 234 compared with the previous week’s total. The Labour Minister, Mr Smith, states that the number of men who qualified under the Number Five Scheme and were placed in work was 35,135.
A total of 5260 were engaged under .the Number Four A Scheme and 950 under the Number Four B Scheme. The men for whom no work was found totalled 6.427, but if- was probable, the Minister stated, that the majority of these were unemployable. The total registrations in the cities were:—Auckland 6861, Wellington 4638, Christchurch 5011,‘ Dunedin 2845.
