FASCISM V. CHURCH
Pope’s Statement (Aus. & N.Z. Cable Assn.) (Received June 12 at 7 p.m.) ROME, June 11The Pope has issued a note to the newspaper “Oseervatore Romano.” explaining that his utterances of May Ist have been misunderstood, but the Pope states that it must be repeated that “the Catholic Action Movement will remain, and be, what it and the Church have made it. It is under no other supreme authority but its own.” There are other -indications that the Pope is satisfied with Italy’s expressions of regret for the incidents that have been perpetrated by irreconeiliables, and the Pope accepts Italy’s undertaking to make good the damage done, but he refuses to accept the Italian Government’s reproof for political propensities of -4 he Catholic Actionists.
