The boxing tournament held in Teichert’.«? Hall. Gran’tv proved a success for which the officials of the Granity Boxing Association deserve credit. At the conclusion Mr E. McDonald presented the prizes as follows.—First 4sf class —Craekett, Ngakawau. gold medal (presented by Mr Frost), Colin Dalzeill. Waimunghroa, runner-up for gold medal (special prize donated by Mr W. Kelly, of Waimangaroa. Parkey. The judges had great difficulty in arriving at a conclusion as to the winner of the medal and eventually called it a draw. Parkey and Dalzicll tossing for the trophy. Other prizes were presented to Cook (Millerton). Hawkins (Westport), O’Gorman (Tiroroti) and Tottenham (Tiroroa). The results were:— Craekett (Ngakawau) 4.91 beat Boynon (Waimangaroa 4.8. O’Regan (Tiroroa) 4.31. beat Mosley (Waimangaroa) 4.4. O’Gorman (Westport) 7.3 beat Chand ler (Granity) 6.13. Cook (Millerton) 8.0. boat. O’Regan (Tiroroa) 7.7. Craekett (Ngakawau) 4.91. beat O’Regan (Tiroroa) 4.31. Hawkins (Westport) 8.8., beat Tottenham (Tiroroa.) 8.11. Parkey (Westport) 5.11. drew with Dalziell (Waimangaroa 6.3. O’Gorman (Tiroroa) 7.13 beat Ryan (Westport) 7.7. Tottenham (Tiroroa)’ 9.0 beat Shorrock (Westport) 9.0. When he visits Ashburton soma time this week. Mr George Aldridge, the secretary of the New Zealand Council, will have a busy time making arrangements with the local officials regarding the New Zealand amateur championships, which are to be held in that town early in August. The coming championships are of particular importance to competitors and enthusiasts alike,, for they will reveal the talent available fop selection later on for the Olympic Games trip. Now that Mr Earl Stewart has recovered from his serious illness it is presumed that the council will again call on his services as selector. A fair representation of Grey district boxers is hoped for at Hokitika tourney oti Saturday week. Entries close on Saturday with the secretary. Mr E. Best, Hokitika. Johnny Leckie has quite a few boys under his wing in Napier, among them being a likely sort of heavy-weight in S. Byrne, who is engaging in his first professional fight at Hastings on 26th June, i?] opposition to the New Zealand light-heavyweight champion, Jim Broadfoot. Byrne represented
Wellington as an amateur heavyweight and according to Leckie shapes well. He is fast on his feet and throws his arms nicely. Another boxer who has had the ad- ' vantage of working out at Napier with Johnny Leckie is George Forward, the ex-Canterbury welter-weight, who was outpointed by Bert Lowe at Dunedin last year. The Otago Boxing Association is leaving no stone unturned to bring about the adoption of the percentage | system of purses in boxing.
