(Our Own Correspondent.) Mr and Mrs D. Robertson, who have been visiting Mahakipawa have return ed. Miss E. Kirby, who has been visiting Harihari, has returned. Messrs R. Whyte, J. Thomas, F. Woods, 8. Purton, B. McTaggart and 1 W. Hall, were visitors to Greymouth on Saturday. Mr J. Askew has been admitted to the Reefton Hospital, and is doing as well us can be expected. Miss Florence Courtney continues t. show improvement while an inmate oi the Beefton Hospital. Reef ton defeated the local ladies’ hockey team on the Recreation Ground on Saturday, by two goals to one, after a fast and interesting game. The local team are improving every game, ami with a little combination, will put up a much improved showing in their next fixture. Mr Joe Baines controlled the game in a capable manner The Waiuta Rugby team were defeat cd by Waratahs a’ Reef ton on Sunday by 28 points to three. Waratah backs pioved too clever for the locals, and gave a delightful exhibition of passing and back play generally. Waiuta’s only score was from a penalty goal kicked by R. Davis. Mr J. Crossman gave every satisfaction as referee. Waiuta A and B League teams met on the Recreation Ground, .the B team gaining u popular victory by six points to nil. Frowen and B. Hempseed scored for the B team. The A backs, i owing to bad handling by the inside men, failed to get going. The B backs gave a good display of handling in the second half. Purton was the outstanding player on the field, and saved his side on many occasions. Costigan, Johnston, J. Morel, B. Hempseed, and Leatham, were other prominent B play ers. P. Morel, Harrison, Nicholson, Brooks, and Joe Lines were the pick of the A team. Mr S. P. Williams capably controlled a difficult game. The annual ball of Waiuta League Club held in the hall on Saturday evening was a great success, both socially and financially. The arrangements reflected much credit on the Secretary, Mr A. B. Hogg, and his committee. The hall was tastefully decorated, the work being carried out under the supervision of Mr R. Curnow. Many charming gowns worn by the ladies present combined with the lighting effects, made a very pretty picture. The music dispensed by Keg. McDonald’s Orchestra (Greymouth) met with the approval of ail present. A dainty supper was served by the committee. During an interval, Mr R. M. Hempseed (President) took the opportunity of present(ting gold medallions to Messrs W. Northey and C. Pratt, who have been elected life members of the Club in recognition of their good work for the code. The President apologised for the absence of Mr Northey, owing to illhealth. Mr Pratt responded on behalf of Mr Northey and himself, and thanked the Chib for ,their memento. “For They Are Jolly Good Fellows” was lustily sung by the large gathering. Dancing terminated at midnight, after a very enjoyable evening. Blackwater Mines returns for May are:—Crushed 4157 tons, yielding 1597 fine ounces of gold valued at £6,782; working expenses £5,506. The furnace treated 93 tons of concent ra/es for a return of 116 fine ounces of gold, valued at £492; working expenses £127. Working profit £1641. Capital expenditure £76, development expenditure £656. | Profit over all £909. Alexander Mines returns for May:—

Battery crushed 390 .tons for 1690zs 4dwts melted gold. Cyanide, 209 tons of sand treated for 67ozs 9dwts. Total estimated value (exclusive of gold premium) £845.
